Studenter i praksis fikk i oppgave å observere en multisyk hjemmeboende pasient hver i åtte uker, og dele observasjonene med sine kolleger.
Sykepleiere beskriver at sykepleie til døende i sykehjem krever «mer av alt», og de føler seg «alene om alt». Situasjonen må tas på alvor både organisatorisk og fagpolitisk.
Beboere på sykehjem er misfornøyde med å sitte passivt inne og er mer sosiale når de er ute. Likevel har de lite kontakt med naturen og utemiljøet.
Mangelfull dokumentasjon av fall kan føre til at det ikkje setjast i verk nødvendige førebyggande tiltak. Likevel følgjer dei undersøkte sjukeheimane ikkje sine eigne dokumentasjonskriterium.
Sykepleiere opplever det som krevende, trist og noen ganger befriende når pasienter faller fra. Denne studien gir innsikt i hvordan erfarne sykepleiere opplever dødsfall på sykehjem.
Studien viser at sykepleiere er utrygge på egen kompetanse om legemidler og derfor vegrer seg for å ta større ansvar for undervisning om legemiddelbehandling.
Sykepleieres erfaringer viser at både indivisuelle, kulturelle og strukturelle forhold synes å ha betyddning ved overdosedødsfall.
Studien tyder på at pasienter med alvorlig psykisk lidelse og skadelig bruk av cannabis og alkoho har høyere risiko for voldsutøvelse hvis de også lider av vrangforestillinger.
